Our last hike was two years ago when we went to Rattlesnake Lake.

I blogged about it earlier. It wasn't all that pleasant. All the way down to the lake on the road/trail, Dan and I dragged a wailing Heidi through the autumn leaves. The kids fought the whole time.
Today was different. There was a little bit of bickering, but everyone was remarkably pleasant with one another. Heidi was a trooper and hiked the entire way up the hill.... er... mountain. Sophie and I were the laggers. I think I broke something in my lungs. Sophie couldn't go a step further until we hit the boulders in the trail and then she gamely clamored over them like a mountain goat. "I like the big rocks... this makes it an adventure!" She quickly left me in the mud. We stayed at the top for about 20 minute. It didn't take long to head down the trail. It only took a couple of hours out of the day, but it was a good part of our day.
It gives me hope for next month.

What a great idea! We need to do something like this...but we need to start simple, maybe just a family walk. So happy you all had a good time. :)
Growing up, my family had FFF - Forced Family Fun. It didn't necessarily involve outdoor activities, but the idea was similar. Looking back, it was a great idea.
